In a commanding display of football, the Adelaide Croatia Raiders secured a decisive 15-0 victory against Apollo FC in their Australia Cup preliminary round match on March 8, 2025.
The match, held at Apollo Football Club's home ground in Mount Gambier, showcased the Raiders' dominance from the outset. The team, competing in the National Premier Leagues (NPL) South Australia, demonstrated their superior skill and strategy against Apollo FC, a club from the South Australian, Limestone Coast Football Association (LCFA).
Despite the heavy defeat, Apollo FC coach Dan Sribar praised his players for their resilience and effort against a formidable opponent.
“A great occasion against an enormous opponent in Adelaide Croatia Raiders. Our lads knew our task was an uphill one but to the credit of the team, both young and old, they never gave in, never gave up, and were able to hold ACR to a 5-nil lead at half-time. A reset and a much-needed rest at half-time for some tiring legs as we went out to face the giants again.
A few injury subs early in the first half were not planned and as a result changed the plan for the second half, which saw many run out of legs late in the game as the odd counterattack from Apollo was quickly pounced upon and sent back into our defensive half.
With a great crowd and many lessons to be learnt from ACR, Apollo look to continue to develop their youthful list and prepare for season 2025.”
This victory propels the Adelaide Croatia Raiders into the next round of the Australia Cup, reinforcing their reputation as strong contenders in the competition. The team's performance reflects their ongoing commitment to excellence in South Australian football.
The Australia Cup, formerly known as the FFA Cup, is a national knockout tournament that allows lower-tier teams to compete against top-tier clubs. The Adelaide Croatia Raiders' advancement showcases their tactical prowess and ambition.
